We have devised the following checklist for you so that, when you come to buying a fireplace, you can be sure of buying the one which suits your requirements best.

• How much heat output do you need?
  A house with generally good insulation and insulated glass in the windows has a heating requirement of 60-70 watts per m². To heat up an area of 70 m², you therefore need to make a fire generating a continuous output of around 4.5 kW.
  
  
• Where should the fireplace be fitted?
  To gain maximum benefit and enjoyment from your fireplace, it is important for you to choose the right shape, look and size. You should do a drawing of the chimney's location in relation to the fire wall and indicate its size. Your Jøtul dealer will help you to choose the right fireplace and where to fit it.
  
  
• How important is ventilation?
  A fireplace needs to have a supply of fresh air from outside in order to avoid smoke being produced and ensure optimum combustion. You can provide a fresh air supply by fitting air vents in the wall or creating a separate fresh air duct from an external wall to the bottom of the fireplace.
  
  
• What type of chimney do you have?
  It is useful if you are aware of the internal dimensions and height of the chimney when you are choosing a fireplace. If the cross-section is too small, the chimney is not high enough, this can often cause poor draught conditions.
  
  
  
• What weight can the floor withstand?
  Jøtul’s fireplace built.ins have a number of surrounds which do not need the floor to be reinforced. If you want a heavier surround, e.g. made of natural stone, you may need to reinforce the floor.
  
  
• Do you need help with fitting?
  Your Jøtul dealer can help with the complete installation process, ensuring that the fireplace is fitted in accordance with the relevant regulations. Fitting instructions come with the product.
